Depsite Rumors, Sprint and T-Mobile Merger Not Likely

Fueled by comments from Sprint's CEO agreeing that there was "logic" to some sort of merger between his company and T-Mobile, rumors are swirling that the two companies will be joining forces.

Don't expect it to happen any time soon, if ever.

The biggest stumbling block to the merger is technology. The two companies do not use the same technology for their wireless networks and, in fact, aren't even at the same stage in development of those networks.

While technology issues could be overcome, the determination of both companies, particularly T-Mobile, to rival Verizon and AT&T on their own is probably an even bigger obstacle.

A merger or even simple cooperation is logical, but that doesn’t make it any more likely.
